Terms of Service
These Terms are the agreement between you (the parent or legal guardian signing up) and Roma. They explain what we're offering, what you're agreeing to on your child's behalf, how billing works, and what happens when things go wrong. We've kept them as plain as the law allows.
Roma is operated by Obbz International FZ LLC, a free-zone company established in the United Arab Emirates.
1. Acceptance and eligibility
By creating an account, clicking "I agree", or using Roma, you confirm that:
- you are at least 18 years old;
- you are the parent or legal guardian of every child you add to the family account;
- you accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy on your own behalf and on behalf of your child;
- the information you give us (your name, email, your child's first name and age) is accurate.
If you do not meet any of the above, please do not use Roma.
2. What Roma is
Roma is a web-based kids' AI companion (a progressive web app) with an accompanying parent dashboard. Your child chats with a friendly AI companion whose memory, tone, and boundaries are shaped by the values you pick at onboarding. You receive a short morning brief and weekly scroll summarizing what your child has been thinking about, plus immediate safety alerts if anything concerning is said.
Roma's behavior draws on several third-party AI models, listed in the Privacy Policy. Roma is not a real person and does not pretend to be one. It is a software product, and it has limits — see section 10.
3. Your account, your kids, your PIN
Parent account
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials safe and for every action taken under your account. If you share your password with a co-parent, that's fine — but the parent account is one unit and actions by the co-parent are attributed to you. If you believe your account has been accessed without your permission, tell us immediately at security@roma.obbz.io.
Child accounts
You create each child's profile inside your family account. You set (or help your child set) their PIN or password. You are responsible for making sure the PIN is known only to your child and to you. If another child or adult uses your child's account, that person's activity is treated as your child's for the purpose of the dossier, the morning brief, and the safety escalation channel — unless you flag a session as disputed afterwards, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Shared devices and guest mode
Roma offers a "someone else is using my iPad" guest mode. Encourage your child to tap it when a friend or sibling wants a turn. Guest sessions are not written to your child's memory and do not influence the dossier.
4. Acceptable use
You and your child agree not to:
- attempt to bypass, jailbreak, or manipulate the safety floor (e.g. role-play scenarios that try to trick the companion into producing inappropriate content);
- use Roma to generate content for commercial purposes, resale, or redistribution — Roma is a family product, not a content studio;
- share access to your Roma family account with people who are not family caregivers (extended family and trusted co-caregivers such as a nanny are fine; making the login public is not);
- scrape, reverse-engineer, or use automated tools against the service (reasonable accessibility automation is allowed);
- upload or submit content you do not have the right to submit, including another person's private information or copyrighted material you do not own;
- use Roma to harass, defame, or harm another person;
- attempt to extract training data, model weights, or the internals of the systems Roma uses.
If we see repeated jailbreak attempts, scraping, or safety-floor abuse we may suspend the account (see section 14).
5. Subscription, billing, and refunds
Tiers and trial
Roma offers paid subscription tiers, with a 10-day trial before billing starts. Prices shown include VAT where required; for customers in jurisdictions where tax is collected separately, tax is added at checkout. We may add, change, or remove tiers over time. Material price changes give you at least 30 days' notice (section "Price changes" below).
| Tier | USD | AED | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Family | $14.99/mo or $149/yr | AED 49/mo or AED 399/yr | Up to 4 kids, unlimited messages, daily brief, voice, games, full dossier, compass drift report |
| Family Pro | $24.99/mo or $249/yr | AED 75/mo or AED 659/yr | Everything in Family, plus co-parent accounts, custom compass values, drift slicing, and PDF yearbook |
10-day trial. Every new family begins with a 10-day trial of the Family tier. You provide payment details at signup as part of verifiable parental consent (see the COPPA Direct Notice), but your card is not charged until the trial ends. You can cancel at any time during the trial — no charge.
Billing cycle and auto-renewal
Paid tiers are billed monthly or annually in advance via Stripe. Subscriptions auto-renew on the same day each cycle at the then-current price until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from Parent dashboard → Settings → Billing. On cancellation, paid service continues until the end of the current billing period; after that, the account reverts to Free (or is deleted if you choose).
Failed payments (dunning)
If a renewal payment fails, we retry for up to 7 days and email you at each step. If payment still fails, we pause the account rather than delete your data — your family's history stays intact while you resolve the card issue. If the card fails and remains unfixed for 60 days, we may archive the account (see retention in the Privacy Policy).
Refunds
We do not refund partial billing periods, except:
- EU / UK 14-day withdrawal right: if you sign up from within the EU or UK, you may withdraw within 14 days of the first payment for a full refund. You can exercise this right by emailing billing@roma.obbz.io.
- Service failure: if Roma is unavailable for more than 72 consecutive hours, we'll credit a day of service for each such period.
- Billing error: obviously, yes. Email us.
Price changes
We may change prices. If we do, existing paying families get at least 30 days' written notice before the new price takes effect, and can cancel without penalty before renewal at the new price.
6. Who owns what
Roma owns the product
The Roma software, brand, companion artwork, design system, book citation library, and the models we train or fine-tune are ours. These Terms don't transfer any of that to you.
Your child owns what they make
Your child's conversations, stories, drawings, and other creative output belong to your child (held by you as guardian). You keep these rights forever — even after cancellation. You can export them at any time.
The licence you grant us
To make the service work, you grant Roma a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to process your child's content solely for the purposes described in the Privacy Policy — generating replies, running safety checks, writing the memory, composing briefs, and producing the compass drift report. This licence ends when you delete the data or close the account.
We do not acquire any right to use your child's content to train foundation models, market products to you, publish excerpts, or anything outside the list above.
7. Third-party services
Roma is built on services from Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), Supabase, Netlify, Stripe, Resend, and Trigger.dev. Your use of Roma is subject to our agreements with these providers as Roma's processors. You do not accept their end-user terms by using Roma — we sit in between. If a provider's pricing or availability changes meaningfully, we may have to change Roma; we'll give you notice and, where material, the ability to cancel without penalty.
8. Communications you will receive
Being a Roma parent means you'll get some mail from us. In V1 the sole notification channel is email; additional safety-escalation channels (SMS, WhatsApp) are scheduled for a future release. Specifically:
- Transactional: receipts, password resets, security notices. These are required for the service and you cannot opt out.
- Safety alerts: an immediate email at any Tier 3 safety event. Non-configurable. This is the non-negotiable core of Roma.
- Morning briefs and weekly scroll: delivered by email or push notification (if you've enabled them). You can change channels or turn off briefs entirely; safety alerts keep running.
- Product updates and occasional marketing: opt-in. You can unsubscribe at any time.
9. What Roma is not — and important AI limits
- AI replies can be wrong. Roma may produce factually incorrect, outdated, or inappropriate content despite our safety floor. Treat its output as a starting point, not a final answer — especially for homework.
- Classification errors happen. Our safety model classifies every message, but no classifier is perfect. We publish false-positive and false-negative rates on the safety eval harness and work to improve them. We cannot guarantee zero misses.
- Roma is not a therapist. It listens empathetically but it is not clinical care and cannot diagnose, prescribe, or treat.
- Roma is not a tutor. It can help with curiosity and thinking, but it is not aligned to any specific curriculum and may disagree with a teacher.
10. Safety disclaimer
Roma's safety floor is a best-effort, always-on filter, plus escalation to you. We take it seriously enough that it is non-configurable. But it is a software filter, not a guarantee. Parents remain primarily responsible for their child's emotional and physical safety. Severe concerns should be taken to a qualified professional or, in an emergency, to local authorities.
11. Warranty, indemnification, and limits
As-is
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Roma is provided "as is" and "as available". We disclaim all implied warranties (merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement) except those that cannot be excluded under applicable law. If you're in a jurisdiction that grants consumers mandatory warranty rights (for example many EU consumer rights), those rights apply in addition to these Terms and are not waived.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify Roma against third-party claims that arise from your violation of these Terms, your child's content submitted to Roma (for example, infringing material or information you didn't have the right to share), or misuse of the service. We'll cooperate with you, and may assume defense, at our cost.
Liability cap
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Roma's total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the service is limited to the greater of US$100 or the total amount you paid Roma in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Roma is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill.
This cap does not apply to: (a) liabilities that cannot be limited under applicable consumer law; (b) gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or fraud; (c) death or personal injury caused by our negligence where non-waivable; or (d) our indemnities under section 11.2 where law prohibits the cap.
12. Termination
You can cancel at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if:
- you materially breach these Terms and do not cure the breach within 14 days of written notice (or immediately if cure is not possible);
- your subscription has been in a failed-payment state for more than 60 days;
- we detect abuse of the safety floor or a pattern of behavior that endangers a child — in which case we may act immediately and will explain afterwards;
- we're legally required to.
On termination, your licence to use Roma ends. Your export rights and data-deletion rights survive termination as described in the Privacy Policy.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. For material changes we'll email you at least 30 days in advance and post the updated version here with a bumped version number. Non-material changes (typo fixes, clarifying rewording) take effect immediately with a date bump. If you disagree with a material change, you may cancel before it takes effect for a pro-rated refund of the remaining period.
14. Governing law and how disputes work
If you live in the UAE, KSA, or another GCC country (default)
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), UAE, where Obbz International FZ LLC operates. Before filing anything, we both agree to try to resolve the dispute informally for 30 days by writing to legal@roma.obbz.io. If that fails, disputes are resolved by the DIFC Courts. Mandatory consumer-law protections in your country of residence are not waived.
If you live in the United States
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Before filing anything, we both agree to try to resolve the dispute informally for 30 days by writing to legal@roma.obbz.io. If that fails, disputes are resolved by binding arbitration administered by JAMS on an individual basis — no class actions. You may instead bring qualifying claims in small-claims court. Claims brought by or on behalf of a minor child are excluded from binding arbitration to the extent local law makes an arbitration agreement with a minor unenforceable.
If you live in the EU or UK
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. This does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer-law rules of your country of habitual residence. You may bring proceedings in the courts of Ireland or in the courts where you reside. No forced arbitration and no class-action waiver apply to you.
Everywhere else
Governing law is UAE (DIFC) law, and disputes are resolved by the DIFC Courts — subject to any non-waivable rights under your local consumer law.
15. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms plus the Privacy Policy, the COPPA Direct Notice, and the Parental Consent Agreement are the full agreement.
- Severability. If any clause is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- No waiver. A one-time decision not to enforce a clause isn't a waiver of the clause.
- Assignment. You can't assign these Terms without our consent. We can assign them to an affiliate or a successor in a merger, sale, or reorganization — provided your protections are not reduced.
- Force majeure. Neither party is liable for failure to perform because of causes beyond reasonable control (outages, wars, disasters, acts of third-party providers).
- Contact. For anything in these Terms, legal@roma.obbz.io.
